Parking charge notice for parking in free car park for users, forgot to register inside.

I Parked at Laser Quest for children’s party organised by friend.  Parking is free for customers (my friend paid in a block booking and I then I paid her)

there is a big old and faded sign at the entrance that says free parking for customers.  There are smaller signs in the car park that detail the need to register, but I didn’t see these at the time as I relied on the information on the main sign.



there was no monetary loss to the car park owner as it was free parking for customers. This is the letter I have received after explaining what happened contacting them.  Should I pay?


This is the letter I have received.

“Thank you for your PAP reply and apologies for our late response. 

 The signs on the site, are very clear in their instructions, that all vehicles need to be registered at the kiosk inside the building, to qualify for free parking. As your vehicle was not registered the PCN was issued. It is the drivers responsibility to observe the signs.

 Our client is satisfied the PCN was issued correctly ad the balance of £170.00 should be paid on or before 02/12/2022 to avoid any possible further action.

 Payment can be made via bank transfer to the account detailed as follows:

 Gladstones Solicitors Ltd”is it likely that the solicitors will proceed further with this?

Yes, you will likely get a small claim unless you hurry up and get the landowner cancellation that was the very first step.
