Do Nationwide perform a hard search when you apply for a second current account?

I need a donor for a switch and need to know. I already have an account with them that I don’t want to sacrifice.

 Thanks!

I don't think that you can bet on it. My memory is that when I opened my current account in the local branch, I was told that opening a credit card account wouldn't require a second hard search provided that it was done within a month of opening the current account. Now, I appreciate that a second current account isn't the same thing as a credit card, but I'd expect the same principle to apply.

For a definite answer, I suggest that you ask Nationwide.

I did the exact thing you mention and a hard search was performed.

They will. Try Starling or Monzo.

I have recently applied for my third Nationwide account. No hard search reported by Creditkarma/Transunion or Equifax, but Experian shows a search.

In general, Equifax says I had no hard searches, even though Experian correctly shows 11 in the last 12 months. Creditkarma shows 3 search, going back as far as 18 months ago. 2 of these 3 also show on Experian as they were made in the last 12 months. Note all these searches were for successful current account of credit card applications so the fear of hard searches is probably largely misplaced if all you are after is the odd extra current account.
