I feel I've been penalised over £100 for being prudent and arranging a fixed rate tariff in June!

i'm confused by bg. i fixed jun23 and my rate has been brought lower but not to that of the new cap. their svr is also showing as higher than the cap.
Are you sure you are looking at the right cap for your region?
From what I can see for my region, your fixed tariff has the same kWh price as their SVT and that matches the EPG cap for this region.
Your standing charge may be different, but the SVR does not affect standing charges on fixed tariffs..

Some companies are lowering the price to the capped rate if the fix is more expensive

Any time anyone competent has talked about it they will have said that the cap in the press is an average and is different in different regions and for different payment types.

Many people will point to EdF’s tariff sheet as the best source for the caps - but Economy 7 can change between suppliers.  https://www.edfenergy.com/sites/default/files/government_energy_price_guarantee_prices._standard_variable_deemed_and_welcome._credit_meters.pdf

Your supplier will tell you the unit cap for a region, as each supplier could be slightly different.
You can then compare this tariff against the average user to see the cap amount.
    For example, Sainsburys West Midlands:
    Electric 33.73p/kWh, 49.15p/day = £1157.5675
    Gas 10.33p/kWh, 28.48p/day = £1343.552
    = £2501.1195

Every supplier has the same cap.

Yes, I mean the cap stays the same, the every supplier has slightly different rates based on the same cap, wrong choice of words. But in effect, the cap could still be very slightly different between suppliers - it's not going to be exactly £2500.

Every supplier in a region has the same cap, which isn’t £2500, and on single rate tariffs they all (bar two who offer a very minor discount) have the same rates.

On E7, they all use the same (but different from single rate) regional cap, but have different rates because they choose to balance day vs night differently.
