good day all.

I have just had an hour conversation with E.on next about how one will receive the credits through pre payment and got no where they cant answer my questions.
Now i knew all about how much you get each month but my specific questions were as follows

Due to the price hike i topped up my electric metre to the max of £250.00 before the rise.
now what  i do when my metre gets down to around £230 i top up with £20 to keep plenty money on
this way i keep an eye on my budget.

1st question i needed help with.  will i have to use up my electric to get it down to around £190 each month just so i can add on the £60 we will get
2.  The key for electric can only add £49 max in 1 transaction so how will that work.

My next issue is that they told me that you can only use the vouchers to top up at a post office.
I have never ever use this as im disabled and its a good 25 minute walk to my nearest one i always use the morrisons mini or premier store at the bottom of my street to top up any time i need to but e.on have said these stores will not accept the vouchers.

Can anyone on here offer me any advice thanks

  • As far as I know, you can only use a whole voucher at once - so that would mean needing to get it down to £67 under the max to let it be used.

I'm no expert in how key meters and their top-ups work though, so I would wait for others who know more to arrive.
  • The keys can hold more than £49 it can be added in seperate transactions. There are different figures floating around of how much they can hold - your figure of £250 is as good a number as any (my key currently has £254 on it).

You need space on the meter to be able to use whatever is on the key. ie: if you have £100 on the key and your meter has £200 you can't use the £100 until your meter is down to £150 (ish).

The vouchers expire after 3 months but you can get them reissued - you won't be able to get them reissued with expiry dates later than mid 2023.

If your meter is currently "full" then the best option is probably make some space on the meter, and cash the October voucher at the end of December then you have until the end of January to cash the November voucher etc. etc. and see how you go.

Worst comes to the worst you could store 3 vouchers on the key (3 x £67 = £201).

You can also use the vouchers for gas prepayment meters aswell, or possibly you will be able get them reissued to a gas DD bank account or issued as a voucher for cash (in the same way as the warm discount scheme works).

  • Thanks do much for this i will take all of this on board much appreciated
