JL card transfer to New Day / bad day

Transfer to New Day is easy?? Er…no. Bad Day.

1. The emails went to junk so I went searching for the invite

2. I applied , and was given a credit limit way higher than I needed or consider safe given ambient fraud. They assure me they can’t change it till my card comes!
so I have compulsory credit!

2b. i won’t be here when it comes but they can’t postpone despatch so it will sit on the mat,…Only when I prompted did they say oh yes they could freeze the card.!, i had to suggest it, not them!!

3. During the application I entered details for DD to pay off each month and assumed it was done. it wasn’t. no way to see what had or had not been done. . Had I not checked on the phone i’d have got a hefty interest charge. Did then Set up on the phone. No doubt new day would have loved that!
4, i entered details for my jl card balance to be transferred over. Again, it turned out (i had no way of knowing) magically deleted by the system. Only this time, they can’t set it up on the phone! and i can’t do it till… i have the card in my hand. oh woe is me!

5. No, they can’t set a daily limit.. or maybe can’t till i have the card in my hand!, (and i’ll be away so no chance)
6. No they can’t phone me back
7. They will give me a “direct” number for the balance transfer but i still have to go through their 6 options 3 times list.

So 3/4 of an hour of my life spent sorting out a “simple” system that isn’t.
security issues the size of both my boots in it, but all they will do is log complaints.
asking my colleagues, they are all apparently disgusted as also had problems and are leaving jl in favour of another card,
previous posters are right, they have shot themselves in the foot

Did noone road test this thing?

”Bad Day” card

Well I've got my Newday card ... and I've come to this forum to look for an alternative.  I don't use phones for banking but I can tell you a) the credit limit is far too high and that is the minimum !  b) It's contactless and it replaced a non-contactless.  I didn't ask for contactless c) They do not do non-contactless d)  The website has no option for spend limits.
I'm afraid it's all over for me and Newday, and I've only used it once !

You can request the credit limit is lowered to whatever you like. Not sure where you have this notion that it's take it all or leave it all.

Almost every single credit card (and debit card, for that) is issued as contactless and the only issuer I'm aware of who offer the opportunity to have a non-contactless card sent is HSBC (and their subsidiaries FD, M&S and for the time being JLFS). It's probably time to accept that it's time to move on.

The best reason to ditch the Partnership card is simply that it's pretty average in terms of the rewards offered and most can do better elsewhere; even if they shop a lot at JL/Waitrose.
  • 1) That is your email provider at fault
    2) They give credit limits based on what they judge you from their algorithms, you can change it of course but doing so is a negative marker on your record as it would increase utilisation. No idea what "ambient fraud" is but if you don't have your card kept with the PIN (or indeed, cut it up once the transfer is done) then your chance of being victim to fraud is vanishingly small and the lender is liable anyway. This is standard practice for all issuers, even if you request a limit they may give you higher if they feel your record warrants it
2b) These things are automated, not their fault you are not in
    3) and 4) Is worth a complaint, if you correctly setup a DD in the process, you might get some apology money
    5) Very few lenders allow this sort of thing, it's not a normal thing to do
    6) Call centre front line often don't do outbound
    7) Standard for phone lines these days

There are no security issues here

As I said, the credit limit is too high and that is the minimum.  It cannot be lowered.  I've tried and I've asked.  So that's that - I'm off.

I so agree. They seem like a very angry person. I feel sorry for the Customer Services people who had to deal with them. As a counterbalance, my move to the NewDay JL card went without a hitch and it’s been fine so far.

Doubt. I've seen reports that they will only lower the credit limit after the first statement, but none that they wouldn't lower it at all. I'm pretty confident they have to accept requests to lower limits.
