Child Tax Credits

We owe some money to tax credits so our award is 50% of what we should get.

I reported a change in circumstance (£42,000 income with £180 a week tax credit) to £51,000 due to husband having a promotion at work I’ve just looked online and it’s gone down to £11 a week (meaning our award is £22 a week now) the online calculator says it should be £120 a week (so payments would of been £60 a week due to the overpayment).

I’ll have to wait for the letter before I ring to find out why it’s so low. Does this amount seem right as I’m assuming they’ve accidentally taken off my sons disability element?:

I pay £900 a month in childcare.

We have 5 children but only 3 of our children were born before 2017.

1 child is disabled and received MRC LRM DLA

Our yearly income is £51,000 combined.

  • Could it be that to they're not actually taking 50%, but an amount that equates to 50% of the previous award?

    Just thinking £9k increase in income @ 41% withdrawal rate gives £3690 reduction (~£71 p/w).  £180, less £90 ('50%' repayment), less £71 gives £19 - not far off...?
