Query about Lowell debt (I have never acknowledged in over 6 years)

I was left with a debt after a break up - I paid my half of the energy bills but my now ex did not end up paying the energy supplier properly. (The payments where supposed to be coming out of their account - I was extremely naïve and have since managed to climb upto a place where I am somewhat financially secure.) The ex somehow removed themselves from the debt and somehow they followed me to my new address - it was initially in both of our names.

Here is the timeline of whats going on to my mind....

- 22nd August 2016  - I have an email from Lowell acknowledging debt to me and offering me to sign up to their website.

- March 2017    - move out of that property and into a new one.

- March 2017 til Now -   I have received various letters, text messages and phone calls (never answered but researched number and turns out to be lowell - then blocked).

It is now 26th August 2022 and I have received no CCJ on my credit file and it was most recently updated yesterday - so 6 years have passed since the debt letters started.

What should I do here? Should i ride it out? Am i being naïve to think this might pass-by or should i be pro-active somehow?

Just some friendly advice would be much appreciated.

The Limitation period in England & Wales is 6 years, well done, you have ridden it out.

If Lowell, or anyone else should contact you in the future about this matter, just write and remind them that under section 5, Limitation act, 1980, this debt is now statute barred, and thus unrecoverable.

The act exists to make certain you are not kept in perpetual debt forever.

Make sure that Lowell have you current address.  You wouldn't want them obtaining a CCJ judgement by default because you failed to respond to court paperwork.
