Being added to a mortgage

I am already on a mortgage with my mum.
My boyfriend wants to add me to his existing mortgage before i become s student as I am going to uni and he is insisting I carry on paying my share of the bills as I have done for the last 5 years.
He says it would be a committment from me and it will give him security and I would benefit from being secure in the equity of the house.
I'm not sure how this would work and the questions I need to ask ?
