HMRC Getting tax refund taking a long time

Anyone else having problems gettin a tax refund from HMRC

I do pension draw down and withdray a lump sum every six moths.  Evertime I do a drawdown I get taxed and then complete form P53 to get the tax back.

My last drawdown was mid April this year and I am STILL awaiting my refund.  I have lost count the number of times I have contacted HMRC to get an update and also files a complaint last month which I am still awaiting a reply.

This has got me at my witts end and I need the money as it my only form of income

Not entirely related - but I work in accountancy and we've seen people getting refunds within 5 days but also have some that have been waiting since April. Repeated calls to the agent helpline at HMRC isn't helping much either, so whilst I can't help you, you're definitely not the only one this is happening to.

Anecdotally, for me HMRC have seemed much quicker and responsive by phone than letter.

On my last tax rebate I was able to get the refund organised instantly over the phone, after waiting 3 months of sending letters.

    Obviously YMMV
