Sorry to keep responding to the thread however I've just had it confirmed by BG that if you join one of their fixed tariffs you can drop back to the SVT without penalty at any time, their exit fees relate to changing supplier only.
So nobody is locked out of the future SVT should it drop.

I don’t think it’s location dependant. Last night about midnight I was offered the oct23v4. I didn’t do it as wanted to check with my husband. When I went to do it tonight, it’s not the sep23v2. So why change over night when it’s the same property?0
