I have a Lenovo V145-15AST

My problem is that my husband wants to use it for meeting and I can't recall ever using the webcam.  When I start the camera it comes up with it crossed through

I have looked at the privacy settings, F8 on the keyboard seems to be a switch for the camera but appeared to do nothing, I have uninstalled the camera and reinstalled it.  I cannot recall what else I have been through, but nothing seems to change it.

The device manager claims it is working OK.

This is the event log, I have no knowledge of anything that happened on 16/03/2021, suspect my husband was using it at the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if just a pointer to a simple diagnostic tool that might tell me where I am going wrong on this.

Thank you.

First confirm that you DON'T need to press the Fn key for the F8 (camera switch) to work  (test by trying one of the other keys eg F2, F3 the volume controls.)
Run devmgmt in search - what devices (if any) do you have under "Camera"

laptops and netbooks :: lenovo v series laptops :: v145 15astcontentdetail - Lenovo Support GB
will get you to lenovo drivers where you can run START SCAN

Do not need the Fn to activate the camera switch, all the other buttons work by themselves and have previously tried Fn, Ctrl and Alt.  None of them made any difference.

    I have EasyCamera under "camera".

    Drivers are up to date.

As I said, I am not entirely sure if this camera has ever worked!

How old is this laptop? The webcam may just not be compatible with your current OS.  Could try manually installing the latest(I think) easycamera driver.    Lenovo Easy Camera Driver - Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo Support GB

It is only a couple of years old.  Have checked on the Lenovo site and the driver appears to be fully up to date, have uninstalled the camera along with the drivers, and reinstalled.

As I said, the device manager is convinced it is working OK.

Thank you for your help, I think we shall have to dig out an old trusty 7 year old HP, always been more dependable and, even at it's advanced age, has better battery than this one does.  Last time we used it the camera worked so hopefully still will.

The annoying thing is I now have another problem to solve, the trackpad seems to have stopped working!  A job for another day, not something I use much as I mostly use my mouse, but  my husband prefers it.

Just an idea what do you use for anti-virus/security , some try to protect the webcam/mic etc .

I use Windows Defender, have not changed any settings on it.  Have checked the privacy settings for the camera.

My laptop is utterly convinced it is working OK.
