Petition to ban DVLA from sharing our details with 3rd party companies

Many of us have received a parking penalty ticket from a private company that charges customers of the supermarket or places like McDonalds for overstaying as an example. Why is it legal at all when GDPR laws are in force? Shouldn't GDPR apply to DVLA as well and prohibit them from sharing the details of drivers with private companies? There is a petition to the government. If you agree with me, please, sign and make it viral. Thank you. I can't post links because I'm on this forum too new, but please copy to your browser's address bar the following: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/621484

Before creating or signing such petitions it may be worth understanding the restrictions of GDPR and where they do and don't apply? GDPR does apply to the DVLA and no it doesn't prohibit them from sharing your information.
The ICO published an opinion paper on this in June 2022 which can be read at https://ico.org.uk/media/about-the-ico/documents/4020676/dvla-opinion-20220613.pdf

This (or variants) has been tried any number of times. It doesn't produce any positive results. There's a class action underway, so if you've suffered at the hands of a private parking firm who have obtained your details from the DVLA (no private parking firm can issue 'parking penalty tickets'), then read the following thread ....

I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

If I suffer as a result of parking company sending me a ticket I’ll just ignore it as well as all following blackmails. Sadly, there are many who don’t endure this emotional blackmail and pay them. I wanted to support this petition because it’s about a change for something better. Even if the outcome is negative - always worth to keep trying.0

But everyone is better putting their energy into responding to the Public Consultation. Coming soon. Yep, better to respond to something that is not set to fail from the offset. The whole system needs an overhaul, GDPR is not going to be the answer and is not really worth wasting time with.
As for just ignoring, it is a strategy some take, but make sure you don't continue to ignore if it gets to the court stage. Burying you head at that point hurts you not them. Just blindly paying isn't the right answer either. Dealing with it proactively at each stage is.2
