Accept offer on ccj or keep paying £1?

I've had a ccj since 2015 which they only started trying to collect in late 2020. As I was living hand to mouth at that time due to not working for several months I agreed to pay £1 per month.

Last month they sent me an offer to clear the account by way of a one off payment of 35% of the balance. In a couple of months I will be in a position to pay that amount but the offer already expired. Would they be likely to accept a lower offer, if so what figure should I open with, and will there be haggling? Or, should I just carry on with the £1 a month? Or wait til they make me another offer?

As it's such an old debt it doesn't show up on my credit file, but presumably it will impact my ability to get credit in the future (which I'm not planning to do).

Nope, once its off your file it`s gone for good, as though it never existed, no one will know about it.

Who is the creditor, and how much is owed ?

With that information I can probably answer the rest of your questions.

It's with Mortimer Clarke, originally a Sainsburys credit card. Balance is £980.40.

They are unlikely to enforce an 8-year-old ccj and just want it off their books, which is why they made the offer.

You could propose a settlement when you have the money available. Maybe make an initial offer of 20% then see how they respond, phone to finalise the  deal and get the final amount confirmed in writing.

It's been a strange experience all round. Not only did they not collect for over 5 years, it took 5 years from my last payment and cca request to apply for the ccj. Just when I think they've forgotten about me they pop up 🙄 The original default was in 2008 for £758.

20% seems like a reasonable starting point. Is there a template letter in the stickies somewhere?
