Should I move from pay as you go to monthly credit for my energy bills?

Hello there, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have a pre payment meter for my gas (safeguard PAYG) and monthly direct debit for the electricity (standard variable), both with British Gas. I have wanted to change to monthly payments for the gas for years but we needed some electrical work done first before they would change the meter. This has now been done. QUESTION: should I change to monthly credit now, before the Autumn, or will that 're-set' my tarriff and allow for a larger hike in prices? Should I stick with British Gas - I hear Martin Lewis say it is best not to move complaines at the moment? Many thanks in advance!

There is no longer a huge difference between prepaid and direct debit, about 10p more per day in standing charges for gas, so £3 per month, and often the unit rates are slightly lower.
Are you in a fixed tariff? If you are on SVT nothing would change, you just pay the SVT rates for direct debit instead of prepaid.
Changing supplier is less about not advisable, than that almost nobody will take you as a new customer, and the SVT rates are more or less the same anyway.
BG has been a good supplier that they have offered some good fixed tariffs the last weeks, but after the latest news they have withdrawn all offers.
