'Special' insurance v 'Normal' insurance

I have a special insurance policy with a musical instrument insurance company. When I try to take out a normal contents insurance policy with (as it must be) a different insurance company, is it correct to ignore the instruments when counting up the contents total? I've looked hard for the answer to this, with no luck.

How hard are you looking? Generally I'd expect them to be treated as "valuables", with a different limit (which may or may not form part of the overall contents total).

Don't omit any items when calculating the value of contents.  If you do, and suffer loss, the payout will be reduced accordingly.

No, generally you have to include them in the contents value... you can ignore them for cover on items outside the home.  At the end of the day if someone sees a £50k violin through the window its your home insurers that have to pay for the broken window, the TV they take at the same time and hence want to know the full risk profile that they are taking on.
