    Laptop or desktop?

Windows 11 and an ssd (forget about hdd)

    8GB ram absolute minimum.

What camera do you want to connect what connection is required? It may already be part of the basic spec.

We really need more details of what you are looking for.

A couple of years ago I went to my local small computer shop and told them what I needed and didn’t need to replace my old laptop. They offered me a very acceptable reconditioned laptop that met the spec and has been brilliant so far.

Definitely something for you to consider.

(They’re a respectable-looking established business, not one of these shops that does repairs to mobiles and buys and sells mobiles for cash!)

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

Can you give us an idea of what sort of things you want to do with the new computer.

    Laptop or desktop?

You will want SSD or NVME storage, but size will depend on what your doing.

    Cameras typically connect using USB.

8Gb Ram is the lowest amount i would reccommend, 16Gb if you want at least a bit of future proofing.

The absolute cheapest system i would recommend would be in the order of £400.

    Desktop.

Why W11 and not 10? I know it will be the latest but is 11 not worse than 10?

Camera although not definite would just be a camera that I could record and play back through the Desktop. Will be installing VLC fro playback of videos.

I don't know what else I may need, certainly nothing like gaming, just regular surfing, emails etc

The spec on my existing is as follows and seems to suit me although there is no camera/video card.

Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Quad CPU
    Q6600  @  2.40GHz   2.40 GHz
    RAM 8.00GB
    System type  64-bit Operating System

Windows 10 will be out of support in the not too distant future (the end of support dates are available) so why bother going for a operating system that is nearing its end of life when the replacement one is already available?

If buying a new computer it makes no sense going for Windows 10.  Windows 11 is not worse than 10.  It looks very slightly different but is essentially an updated version of Windows 10.
