Morning all, been a while since I've been here and for a change it isn't my dad's pc with an issue.

A relatives got a lenovo g50 laptop, which I'm guessing has probably had a recent Windows 10 update, you can login but it then takes a few minutes on the welcome screen before you get to the desktop all the icons are there but other than moving the mouse you can't do anything, tried Windows keyboard key, ctrl alt delete, clicking in the search box but nothing the mouse pointer is just a circle . Also gave f8 & f4 and shift restart a go on boot up to see if I can get into safe mode but that ain't working either.

Any ideas? Thanks Dave

    -try external keyboard and mouse
-is there a disk activity light on the g50?  at least it'll tell you whether the disk is grinding away. Or perhaps you can hear the disk grinding away
    - boot with W10 boot disk and could try repair from that (and copy files off if necessary)
    - swap disk with SSD and clean install to that
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

There's two lights on front one looks like power one battery, neither appear to be flashing, typical when I went onto to check I can't get any further than the welcome screen once you've put your password in  :s

If you can log in that proves the keyboard is OK.  Can you hover over the battery symbol and see if there is any charge although, if it was a battery issue, you would think you could not even log in.  If the mouse is just a circle, it suggest some activity is going on.

Yeah thought they were OK, did pull the battery and just went on mains increase that was the issue, still just stuck with welcome spinning which is a bit of a step back from where I was.

Shut it down completely via the start menu
    Remove battery and power cable
Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds
    Release power button
Plug power cable back in and try again

    Any use?????

If the above doesn't work, try a restart if you can.  Will the mouse let you click on the Start button and then do a Restart, sometimes Windows updates gets stuck waiting for this.
