Tax credit refusal

Hi MSE
can anyone help with tax credit . Filled the form in online and it say we’re not entitled to receive it.
As we both have our pensions this is deemed sufficient and we don’t qualify.
I am unemployed, my wife runs a farm shop as a sole trader, sadly we are likely to go out of business soon .
would appreciate any help you can give. Many thanks
kevIn .

No new claims for Tax Credits are possible.

You refer to pensions. Are you both over State Pension age? If so, did you mean Pension Credit?

Pension Credit will top up the income of a couple to £278.70/week if it would otherwise be less. The entitlement can be higher if you receive disability benefits or are caring for someone in receipt of a disability benefit.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

I assume that you are talking about Pension Credit - as Calcotti says, this tops up your income to £278.70 per week, so if your combined pensions are more than that then you are not eligible.

YOu could take a look at https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=855fabc9-be57-405f-ac38-916e74b99b22 to see whether there are any benefits or assitance you might qualify for, for instnace if you have any disabilities.

It sounds as though your wife propbaly needs to plookat whether it is viable for her to continue her business, arrange to stop trading if it isn't viable any longer.

You might also find it helpful to look at the debt board - if you are willing to post a statement of afairs setting out your income and ougoings, then people there can offer dvice about how to manage the budget to help you live within your means , as well as giving advice if you are struggling due to any existing debts.
