Making a claim on your insurance and telling new insurance outfit you've made a claim

This may sound daft but here it goes.

We have the telly, fridge, drier, CH, Sky, car, house, life insurance and more.

We have break down insurance and take out travel insurance

When applying for new insurance on anything, they will ask have you made any claims.

Therefore, would I need to tell them if we made a claim on the washing machine EG it broke down on the extended insurance
or CH boiler had a fault during the extended insurance period?

Often I apply for insurance cover online and have to phone if I have doubts but it takes a long time for them to answer the phone.

The question isn't usually as vague as that - it's more likely to be specific to that type of insurance.

Also bear in mind that service plans etc are often not really "insurance" in the normal sense.

And it's generally not a money-saving idea to take out those extended warranties anyway!

The question will be specific and you answer it correctly as it is asked.   Don't insert your own words into their question (many do as they do not read it correctly or just assume it says something different - a bit like you have here).

This is hard work... You said "When applying for new insurance on anything, they will ask have you made any claims."

What exactly is the wording of that question they are asking you? (hint: it isn't simply "have you made any claims?")

What people are saying is that you have more than one question wrapped up in just one question in your original post, for example -

Question 1 - "would I need to tell them if we made a claim on the washing machine EG it broke down on the extended insurance"

And then a different question which is -

Question 2 - "or CH boiler had a fault during the extended insurance period?"

    Two questions you see.

You have mentioned many different types of insurance.

If you are seeking new insurance for your washer, you will have to say that yes you made a claim and give details of it.
If you are seeking new insurance for your boiler then again, you will have to say you made a claim and give details of it.

Obviously if you are looking for car insurance you won't have to say anything about the boiler or the washer. Only mention the relevant claims for the relevant insurance.

There is a national database in the UK called Claims Underwriting Exchange that all insurance companies can check just to ensure that customers are being truthful so as long as you complete any forms to the best of your knowledge and ability, you should be okay. If you make a mistake, the insurance companies will certainly let you know.

Thanks. It was a general, generic question if that makes sense.

I think it is best just to run it by the people we take the ins out with.

Many thanks for making the effort to help.
