My scotland bankruptcy experience

Hello.

After a lot of looking on all the forums here for help and advice (and I received a lot) I did notice there wasn’t much discussions on Scottish Bankruptcy so thought I would share my experience to help anyone like me who was looking for help.

Realised I needed to do something after taking my head out the sand and contacted Stepchange in April who recommended Bankruptcy. Stepchange helped me so much with getting my I&E correct and were so helpful from start to finish. Once my application was submitted, it felt like a lifetime waiting to hear if I was awarded or not. 5 days later I received an email saying it was. (Such a massive relief that day) then I received a letter from the AIB about contacting them to arrange the phone interview. 4 very long days wait and anxiety through the roof I picked up the phone at 10am to a very pleasant man saying it shouldn’t take longer then 20mins. Once that phonecall all was over I could breath again. I got myself so worked up and worried about it but it was actually ok. He went through my forms and how I thought I got into debt etc and how one big loan was used when taken out.

This last month I’ve been in the darkest place I’ve ever been in my life, with the worry and worst thoughts but now I feel so much lighter, positive for the future. (Never in my life I would think I would of gone ‘bankrupt’ but I made very silly mistakes in my past and now I am looking forward to a very FRESH start and clean slate!

Seems to be a common train of thought amongst bankrupts, ex bankrupts, why on earth didn`t I do this before ?

Your OR (or AIB) isn`t there to apportion blame, or tell you how stupid you have been, most debtors have already been through that mill, no, they are there simply to guide you through the process, and make it as smooth as possible for all concerned.

Most personal bankruptcies go without a hitch, and its not the end of your life as you know it, very much the opposite in fact, obviously more complex cases may be much more in depth, and take longer, but hopefully all will have the same outcome, an opportunity to start again, afresh.

So well done to you, and thanks for the feedback.
