Hi,
I posted this on the death/probate board and they suggested I post on here for help ...
A friend's parent has just passed away and looking at the will there will be money coming their way once probate is complete.
They are currently in receipt of Universal Credit and also get their assisted living care package paid for at the moment.
When they inherit the money will they have to use this to pay for their assisted living payments and potentially lose their UC as well or is there a way around this?

For UC, if they have savings/capital of more than £16,000 on the last day of their assessment period then entitlement to UC will end. For every £250 or part there of over £6,000 there's a deduction of £4.35 per month. For the assisted living payments they will need to speak to their local Authority. If they're claiming PIP or DLA this won't be affected.3
