Current Account Switching service

My dad has recently died and they had two current accounts (both joint accounts) and in time my mum will want to just keep her lloyds account, but all the direct debits were on the natwest one along with a pension payment
I was wondering is it possible to use the current account switching account on an account thats been open over 40 years with lloyds to auto transfer over the DDS, just make it much easier!
Thanks in advance

It won't matter how long the account has been opened. If you use the switching service the account that you nominate to switch is closed and all the payments are transferred over. (But it's wise to check that the pension providers are notified of new account details.)
In this case it would mean closing NatWest account & switching it to Lloyds.
Are there no incentives on the NatWest one like some cashback on utility payments?Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Just be aware you can not switch a joint to a sole account. So you will have to convert both to sole accounts 1st.Life in the slow lane1

Presumably they will no longer be a joint accounts as one of the account holders has died.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Thanks everyone
Wants to stop with Lloyd's as that's her local branch(for the moment....)
And yes it will be changed to a single account

Both banks will automatically turn them into sole accounts when notified to their bereavement teams.1

If you are not aware, don't close the Natwest account yourself. The account switching process will close it for you.0

Thats why i am going to get my mum to use it , just easiest way to ensure all DDS moved on, less phone calls and less hassle and doesnt need to worry about closing the account herself0 -
Just watch out if they had or have any savings accounts linked.
The switching service does not move or close them.
The wife moved from TSB to First Direct via switching service.
All went ok until 6 months later the TSB savings account sent interest statement.
To close the account she need pass codes etc that she does not have.
Or in branch, with photo id which she does not have.
So 11p is stuck in limbo and TSB can’t or won’t help.
Just one less Issue for you and your mum moving forward.

You're right, the CASS only switches the current account, but that is not unexpected as that's all it's supposed to do..
Any other accounts held at the original bank (savings, ISAs, credit cards, etc) will stay where they were, and all should still be accessible via the original login and security info.2 -
Yes, TSB online access will still work (assuming they had online access) however without a TSB current account there is no electronic way of accessing that money. The only option is via branch with valid ID.1
