Insurance for £10k Contents During an AirBnB Stay?

43 Posts

My wife and I have sold our house to emigrate to Canada. To accomodate our buyer, we are temporarily moving to a UK AirBnB (cottage) for 1 month before flying out, and we are taking our contents with us (~£10k value) to the AirBnB before shipping them overseas.
I've just got off the phone with our current contents insurer AXA who have said they won't insure the contents during the AirBnB stay. And I don't think a domestic travel insurance would cover that value either.
For the items we won't actually need with in the cottage, the best I've come up with is putting them into a storage unit that offers its own insurance. However, I'll need my work computers and related equipment in the AirBnB, not to mention our clothes, etc., which is at least a £3k value, so we'll definitely need some kind of cover!
Any ideas as to how we could cover our contents?

Had a chat with AirBnB and you're correct that they have a host liability insurance which covers up to $1m if the host is at fault, so that's a good start. It appears we wouldn't have cover if the host isn't at fault, though, so I'm trying to figure that one out.
Urban Jungle was a good idea. They weren't willing to commit to whether the AirBnB qualifies under their definition of a private domicile, but it could work for some if you feel it fits their definition. They don't cover business equipment owned by an employer (my own company), so if I go with them I'll have to find separate insurer for the work stuff.
