Help! Can I get a delinquent debt defaulted?

Hi there - here goes, hope this makes sense...
2009 I started a Stepchange DMP with about 9 creditors - they all defaulted me except one ( a Marbles card account) however I didn't realise at the time how important this was due to not having the courage to look at credit scores etc
2018 Went self managed and did CCA letters etc and have cleared most of the debts now via full and final offers
2022 Now we want to move house so I have looked at my credit score (finally) to find that the only thing on there is the old Marbles account (£6k debt) which is showing as "Delinquent" with missed payments (as I am not paying them anything due to it being unenforceable)
The debt was sold by SAV Credit to Callquest (now Capquest) in 2012. I have complained to Capquest about the fact it was never defaulted and they said as I broke no agreement with them, I needed to speak to SAV Credit however when I spoke to them they said it was sold to Callquest with an agreed DMP at the time therefore they never defaulted it.
So basically I don't know who to speak to now about the possibility ideally of getting it defaulted and backdated (which is no doubt me living in cloud cuckoo land). If I ever want this off my credit report is my only option to pay the debt and then wait 7 years for it to drop off my file?
Sorry for rambling and any advice gratefully received!

Six years is the magic number, most negative information is removed from your file at that point.
The dates you mention above are quite a while ago, the entry should have been removed from your file by now, what date did you stop making contractual repayments to this account ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I think I stopped paying them anything at all in October 2018 however my credit history shows Nov 2017 as the last "arranged payment" for some reason. Between 2009 and 2018 I was making payments via Stepchange. This account has never been defaulted hence I assume that until I pay off the debt I'm doomed to always have it on my file and I can't work out who if anyone I can complain to about the fact it isn't defaulted as the current (Capquest) and previous (SAV Credit) creditors are saying its nothing to do with them0 -
Its the debts original owner that should be contacted, however its a bit late in the day now.
End of next year should see it removed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thats good news thanks ( I was thinking it needed to be defaulted for that to happen rather than me just not paying)
Thanks for your help. Much appreciated0
