Morning everyone Put my washing out on the line before breakfast as it's meant to be dry all day today. Yesterday was lovely and sunny in the morning then poured from about 4pm. Had a nice chat with a friend I haven't seen for ages on my way home from work - we had to move when the rain started. I have a few pottering about jobs to do before work later, including putting some oil on the upstairs doors - for some reason they have all started to squeak. DD is going to a concert in Newcastle later so little one is coming here for tea and a sleepover. DD will come back here to sleep too so she can have her in with her if she gets up in the early hours. NMLC - I hope your day started off better today. Coxy - bad luck with the job. Makes you wonder how they choose one person out of 300 Hope everyone has a good day today. Take care x
Hello all, I had a disjointed sleep last night, lots of weird dreams which woke me up every couple of hours, if a dream interpreter looked at my dreams they would have me sectioned 😂 I think the Sandman needs to get to work on a lot of people on here, I don't know who's wardrobe he's skulking in though, anyone own up ? After a gloriously sunny day yesterday, the sun is desperately trying to push aside the clouds but it is still very cold. We had a great day with DGD yesterday and she enjoyed the horse riding lesson although the young instructor took her out of her comfort zone and made her ride with no feet in the stirrups 😯. She rose to the challenge admirably but later declared that it was scary. We called in Costapacket on our way home for a drink and cake, so our diets were well and truly scuppered yesterday. We re-ordered a another large bag (16kgs) of bread flour last night as we've used most of the last one we bought when we were in lockdown and it should arrive towards the end of the week. ( it's gone up by £2 though ! ) Today I need to write an email, fill in the dr's questionnaire (I took a leaf out of Nels book and have calmed down before I filled it in) then we'll both take a walk to the post box to post it, we've got to start to work off those cakes from yesterday. I want to tidy up the hedge roots from the front garden too and put them behind the fence at the side so at least they will be out of sight. I don't know if I can shoehorn them into the green waste bin as collections start very soon. Tea tonight will be a smallish jacket potato with (?) and a large side salad. Nels I haven't forgotten you my BFF and you're on my to do list for later 🧡 Chin up lovely. Snoozer good luck for your appointments today. NMLC hope today is much better at work Coxy sorry you got a NO, I'm sure something suitable will turn up. Sorry for not commenting on some others, I've now got brain freeze and I've forgotten who said what 😕 I shall send healing vibes to all the poorly ones, the poorly DH's and NRA's Dad. Take care all nan xx
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
Very late for me but its been a crazy day already and its only 10.30 After another poor night sleep worrying about mum I called her doctor. Said he would ring one day this week which was frustrating but a sign of the times I guess. Anyway the receptionist obviously sensed something in my voice so the call came an hour later. Can't say he was a huge help but he does want to arrange some blood tests to rule out other issues then suggested I ring social services and arrange carers. That will be fun convincing mum. My thoughts are that at least she will be in the system and hopefully we can start the inevitable journey of her having to get some long term help. My head is whirling at all the options. Problem is mum is in denial and won't accept having to move which of course is inevitable.
Also spoke to the water company as they still haven't sent a bill after she used enough to keep a street going for a month (overflowing toilet) they have done more readings and now say they are too low! Anyway to be fair they are going again for a reading then get back to me with how much we need to pay. I reckon she isn't using any which all adds to the above concerns.
So thats been my fun day so far. I may be missing every now and then depending on what pans out but Ill try to post when I can.
Food hasn't been my priority but I will make a pasta dish tonight not sure what yet
Morning all. Another bright and sunny day here, it's a pity I don't have any washing to hang out. Sods law, when I do have some it will be pouring down.
SM delivery is due early afternoon and email tells me there are no subs or oos, but the pork shoulder steaks are short dated. No matter, they are destined for the freezer anyway.
Postie has been with the results from my recent diabetic eye screening and all is well, so that's done and dusted for another year. No CT bill yet but details are now on their website so I know ours will be costing an extra £4 pm. I suppose it could have been worse.
Another one here with a poorly DH. His knee is swollen and painful and we're not sure if it's because he's not been using his walking stick of late or whether it's the gout playing up again. He says it feels like the latter so we'll have to try for a GP appointment. No doubt it will mean a blood test (or two) and perhaps stronger tablets.
I started the new knit last night and the yarn is a joy to work with. Good stitch definition, very soft/light and I think it will have a good "drape".
That doesn’t sound like a good start to the week, nmlc, I hope today’s a better day for you and your car’s fixed.
Enjoy coffee/lunch, TA. You’ve got nice weather for it too!
Gers, I didn’t realise the Scottish census was done at a different time to England’s, I thought they were all done at the same time.
Oh dear Scarlet, I hope DH’s foot gets better quickly.
I hope the eye/blood tests go OK, snoozer.
Izzy, I hope the fall in the bath didn’t shake hubby up too much. Those bath bombs are slippery little devils.
Have a good day if you can, thoughts with those not feeling too well or having worries. Take care. X
We're back. My blood test was fine except that they only had the plastic tape I am allergic to for the dressing so I was made to sit and hold it on for five minutes before they'd let me go. Trust me to be allergic to the hypo-allergenic stuff, I'd have been fine with a normal plaster.
Steve has been referred to Moorfields, although the cataract ops were fine the muscles in his left eye have been damaged, probably by his cancer treatment. He's been left with double vision so he might need an op to rectify it.
I'm just going to make some sweetcorn fritters to take down as snacks for Esben and then we'll have lunch and go.
Morning, all! Another bright day down here in Devon, so the duvet cover will be going out on the line, followed by the sheets and pillowcases which (of course) can't go in with the duvet cover as the wretched thing always unbalances the machine. I have clearly yet to learn the arcane art of folding the duvet cover 'just so' as the machine has just squawked at me and told me the load is 'unbd'. Le sigh ! I have a loaf of wholemeal being kneaded by the breadmaker - I just use the dough setting and then bake my bread in a conventional tin, which means I can get on with other things. Tonight's meal is Slimming World jacket potatoes with beanz and cheese from my Health Extra allowance, and I'll scar up a salad to go with it - DH gets a little meat pie with his, no beanz and a smaller jacket. My lovely hairdresser has given me a great sharp bob cut and told me it takes years off (if only it also took off the bit of lockdown weight gain - hopefully restarting SW will help.
Like nannywindow, I'm having a senior moment re: names but if y'all don't mind, I'm sending up little prayers, hugs and love for those who need them and hope to catch up with you later this afternoon xxx
Sorry about the job Coxy, will you keep looking? Your holiday flew over, pity the weather didn't seem to be the best. Hope you've settled in back at work, doesn't take long does it. Taff, we had cauliflower cheese last week, Dh says it's the only way to eat cauli. DH saw the nurse at the Drs and has an infection originating in a toenail so he has anti b's , he's ok though. Nels, I read my earlier post about your D and V, saying it was worse cos you are on your own, talk about stating the obvious!! Of course it's worse! Forgive me for being such a fool!
Sneaking in whilst it is still afternoon. Another dry and sunny day today. Lots of domestic stuff been happening here. Carpet shampooing (pleased no-one else saw the colour of the water), duvet covers and sheets been having a good blow on the line and 2 bags dropped into CS today, still masses of tidying do do though. Had a lovely morning, met my bestie about 40 minutes away for brunch and lots of catching up, we both came away feeling lighter for a while having discussed family worries as well as touching on the awful wider stuff, talking about how we and nearly everyone that we know feels we have lost confidence, get up and go because of Covid, lockdowns etc. and now even more awful stuff to live with, all out of our control.
Thinking of all who are poorly, worried about our dear families and those in our spheres dealing with health and financial issues.
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)
IzzyBee - men - Mr F is a nightmare - I asked him to put my bucket and mop in the bathroom ready to wash the floor. When I went up there - the floor was sopping wet - he had tried using my new mop system - the spinning one that drys the mop - only he wasn't doing it right! Been to the SA today but tomorrow is cancelled due to Covid.

Another dry bright day, the rest of the washing should dry on the line and then I may or may not do the ironing 😉
I will try and go for a walk as well, I did 8 miles yesterday and my hips are aching a bit but I'm sure it's good for me 😂
I'll try and carry on with some cross stitch later, I tried last night but one of cats 🐈 thought the thread was for playing with.
Hugs to all the poodles and I hope all the cars 🚗 behave themselves
Have as good a day as you can 🌻
