promised pay rise hasnt been given despite new supervisory role

Hi all,

I am feeling a bit annoyed at the moment with my employer.
I have been there over 2 years and started as a trainee on £10ph

since then my supervisor has recently left & ive been given his role & to train a new starter up - including picking him up and dropping him home etc
not a problem, he's a good lad and I can claim the hours I am in the van for anyway.

what is a problem though is that the new lad came in on the same rate £10ph as me, who was responsible for him on site and training him up.
I emailed my MD to explain my frustrations at this and he arranged a meeting to discuss.

I have been approached by a competitor ( by referral of my recent supervisor ) but decided to stay with my employer as they offered a pay rise to £13ph
which I was accepting of, this was the day before we broke for Christmas & he wrote it down in his diary to be sorted upon returning after the break.

I have just had my payslip for this month, alas, 10ph rate.

unfortunately I am off with an injury due to heavy lifting at work, resulting in multiple GP and hospital visits..so only on SSP  at the moment
the past week or so I have majorly improved and want to be back asap - work want me to see Occupational Health prior to my return.

which makes it a tad awkward to start moaning about my pay rise while im off sick.
on the other hand I know when I return Ill be expected to resume my duties and responsibility despite my "apprentice" being equally paid to me and with zero responsibility and limited skill.

any advice?
I would prefer to maintain my role with my employer but £10ph for a skilled, supervisory, qualified trade doesn't seem fair anymore particularly come April when MW will be just 50p behind me.

You need to get it sorted, and as soon as possible.  It may be a simple admin issue with information not getting to payroll in time.  If you are expecting to be back at work soon I agree it may look better if you leave it until you return.  The delay in asking the question can be explained by saying you assumed it was simply delayed by the Christmas Break.

My intention as it stands is to get back to work as soon as they let me back.
get back in to the swing of things for a week or so and then Send an email to the MD to enquire as to why my payrise hadnt been sorted by when he had said.

I know I am not withing any "rights" to anything, but I think anybody with any self respect would refuse to train, collect, drop off and be responsible for a trainee & the site/client/job. for the same rate as the trainee.

according to previous staff, the company are terrible at sticking to promises & say whatever they can to kick the can down the road.

As I get paid monthly, today was the first payslip since the promise was made 6 weeks ago, nonetheless even with christmas gone, thats plenty of time to sort payroll etc, but until Today I didnt know if it had or had not been sorted.
meaning I am "down" £400 or so for this pay period.

    its all very frustrating.

Of course it's frustrating, which is why you need to take it up with your employer now, or you'll just go on feeling hard done by (understandably so).
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

    What's the real time line
    Date you got the promo
Date you got the promise(did you tell them about the other offer)
    Date you went sick.

How many days have you actually done this increased role.

So why did you not grab the opportunity offered by the other employer?  Can you contact the other mob and try and resurrect things?
The current employer doesn't appear to place any great value on your contribution.

    possibly yes.
and something I will look into.

when my supervisor left, they clearly worried I was about to follow as the MD said listen, we know X has gone, are you staying?
you have a job for life here , youre an asset.. etc etc
and after the promised pay rise, I felt I would be better and happier staying.

I did reply to this but its gone?

    anyhow

unofficial promo - 6th December when new starter started.
email sent to explain issues - 20th and meeting arranged for 22nd, when pay rise was promised

Ive done 5 weeks in the role
allowing for the time off over xmas and now.

I sent an email Wednesday asking to return Friday ( today ) which would have allowed a few days after to recover and adjust
and they replied due to the nature of role and injury that they were referring to in house OH before my return.
    Ive heard nothing since.

That would also be a concern if you are in charge of a trainee.

Did the back injury occur before or after you took on the new role?  If after, the employer may now be reconsidering your suitability for the role.

Roughly the same time. But didn't become known until Christmas break
Of course it may well be entirely unrelated.

And regards the role. There are no other staff there to take the role over.
And even if my old supervisor had never left it would have mean it was me and him on that job in particular. A back injury doesn't result from a change of role.
