Moving home, can't change date on British Gas website
I have begun the process of moving house. Initially, the man who is helping me with the move, who is somebody I do not know, agreed to do the move on the 25th. I am moving from Ipswich to Rotherham and he offered me a good price. I then told British Gas, via their website, that I'd be moving out on the 26th, thinking I'd be gone the previous day.
However, the removals guy spoke to me just minutes after I did this and said 'does it have to be the 25th I can do the 27th'. Being that I do not know the man, and that I have Autism, I did not have the confidence to do anything other than just agree. This now means British Gas will cut my power and gas when I still require the property.
It is seemingly impossible to use the website to change the date I'm moving out, and it proved very difficult to get a working customer services phone number. When I did find one I sat on hold for 20 minutes, before speaking to somebody who is clearly working in a foreign call centre. This lady took only my name, and when I explained I wanted to change my move out day to 1st February (I'm not convinced the removals chap will not change the date again), she said this change has been made in a rather curt manner. However, I've tonight checked the website and it is still saying I'm moving out on the 26th. The British Gas website's live chat facility doesn't seem to be working properly as even the automated bot does not respond to my messages.
This is making me very anxious that I will completely lose power and gas when I am still actually living in the property. I get very little support despite my Autism (I was supported by my wife until she ran off with another man, but I digress) and this is only making the situation far worse.
What do I do now?

No they won't cut you off - no-one will come. Just like when you move into your new property where you will find the previous occupant has also told his supplier and the electricity and gas will be waiting for you just to switch on the lights.Lenzar said:................. And a day is neither here nor there - don't try to contact BG.
Rest easy , finish your packing and get ready to enjoy your new home,Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Remember to take meter readings the day you take possession, to register with the existing providers and send them the readings and your bank info. You'll be on their Standard Variable (Capped Tariff) by default. The general advice is to ignore any fixed rate offers right now and wait to see what the new price cap is when it's announced on 7 February.Don't forget to read the water meter.0
