Endowment taken out circa 1988 mortgage lender cannot trace it

Options
I took out an endowment mortgage through Abbey National in 1987/88
In May 2000 the endowment stopped being paid and the house sold in 2001 paid off mortgage (mortgage circa 30k house sale circa 80k)
Santander and Royal Life are unable to find the endowment policy using name/ address/ DoB
Am I contacting the correct companies?
Would the endowment policy have been automatically cashed in against the mortgage redemption?

Why did the mortgage stop being paid.
Mortgage and endowment policies arec2 completely separate  entities and would have been paid to 2 separate companies.
A mortgage provider and an insurance Company.
    Not connected at all

    Did anyone cash it in.

  • House was sold so cleared mortgage
Santander and Royal Life have both said they wouldn't cash in without both signatures, and if we hadnt cashed it in by time it reached maturity they would send check out to last known address (we had then moved on), if chq not cashed within 6 mths it would be on record
Do you know who Abbey National used for their endowments back then, were there many companies?

Santander didn't acquire Abbey until 2004. Old documentation may well have been destroyed by now.

You could try Winterthur Life, thats who my endowment through Abbey was with but it was a few years after yours was taken out.

Both my Abbey National / Endowments were through Scottish Amicable.

You would normally clear the mortgage from the proceeds of the endowment policy. That's what they are for.

If that didn't happen, how did you pay the mortgage off

That would suggest that the endowment was cashed in at the time the payments stopped...

Pretty much all of the old with-profits offices have either closed or sold-off their savings book to Phoenix or Resolution

they may be worth a try if you are looking for a paid-up policy
