Varifocals

Specsavers have quoted me £400 for varifocal glasses.  Can anyone recommend a good online alternative?

Varifocals need to be fitted to your face. The slightest  distortion  to the frame affects  your vision ( in my experience  )
In saying that ,I have never had a good experience  with Specsavers

Sounds expensive to me but it all depends on what coatings you are having.  As Pelirocco says it’s important to get them fitted properly.  Have you tried going into another opticians to compare prices?

I don’t think the price is that bad, due to the special coatings and they are reactive my varifocals give little change from £600.

Specsavers (and various others) are really good at adding in extra bits that they think you will need.

The ways to cut the price at any optician is to go for standard frames (not designer), thicker/heavier glass/plastic, less coatings and don't go for their 2 for 1 offers.

Just this last one cut about 1/3 of the price for a pair of glasses I got from them years back.  They were shocked that I didn't want a second pair - what if I lost or broke the new ones I was buying?  Simply - my prescription hadn't changed much, I could always go back to my old pair if I needed to - but (knock wood) in 50 years of wearing glasses I have never lost or broken a pair.

And check if there's a scheme through work - I might be paying anything up to £800+ depending on the optician for my complex prescription but as work has an eyecare scheme I can get a new pair free or almost free.  I needed new lenses this year but didn't like the standard frames they had so the chap working there realised I might like the style of last year's Calvin Klein which they'd discounted to £75.  So that's all I paid.

Well I did say it depends on the coatings.  My last bill for reactive varifocals plus varifocal sunglasses was about £600 from Boots.
