Hi I have a family member who is moving to a flat Scotland from England and they are trying to find out how to set up their energy.  The flat has a prepayment meter with eon for gas.  The electric is with Scottish Gas (not prepaid).  Do they need to go with the current supplier or can they find another supplier and if so is anyone offering a reasonable deal at this time (I know this is probably a no no but thought l would ask for them)?  They don't have a current supplier as they are not in their own home so can't transfer.
Many thanks

Yes, they need to sign up with the current supplier.  Watch out for suppliers trying to get them to agree to an over-priced tariff.

After that, they can switch to another supplier, but nobody is offering a "reasonable deal".  The only reason to switch would be to find another supplier who will install a credit meter for gas.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Thank you.  I wasn't sure so couldn't help them.  I guess they just need to contact the energy companies just before they move once they have a moving date?

When he moves in ring Eon and get a new prepayment key - do not use any left  by the previous tenant.

Also ring SG and give them a meter reading for the electric

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Oh l just thought they would leave the key, but never used this sort of thing so neither of us knew.  I will get them to contact the suppliers.  Again thank you.

If you use an inherited key you'll be paying off any debt that's on it.
