"The energy regulator has hired an executive from a recently collapsed supplier to lead its work on the price cap.

Daniel Norton was commercial director of Colorado Energy, which failed last month with 15,000 household customers. Before joining Colorado this year, Norton worked at Centrica, the owner of British Gas, where he helped to defeat Ofgem in a court case over the way the price cap was set in 2019.

Norton started at Ofgem this week as a deputy director, leading teams responsible for designing and updating the price cap. He warned that the cap was destined to rise “a lot” when next updated in April."
