I got an e-mail at 15:36 today from Neon Reef telling me that they've finally succumbed and that an SoLR will be appointed in due course, so I'm gonna have to wait for my £23 credit which has been outstanding since the middle of July.

here is the text

It is with regret that we must announce that Neon Reef is ceasing to trade.

You need not worry; your supply is secure and domestic credit balances are protected.

OFGEM’s advice is not to switch, but to wait until they appoint a new supplier for you and to take a meter reading ready for when your new supplier contacts you. This will help make sure that the process of handing customers over to a new supplier, and honouring domestic customers’ credit balances, is as hassle free as possible.

Support and advice is available on the OFGEM website for both domestic customers and non-domestic customers. Alternatively, if you need additional support, you can call Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or email them via their webform. Advice will also be shared on OFGEM’s twitter @ofgem and Facebook channels.

You will still be able to access the online portal via our website to view bills, provide meter readings and see usage.

It's very sad, but TBH they were hanging on by a thread

this makes pretty sobering reading - https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/check-whos-taken-over-your-energy-supply

Keep taking readings but don't send them until your new supplier asks for them, otherwise Neon Reef and the SoLR may use different values, e.g. if the readings are not on the same date or have been tweaked by The Mysterious Third Party.
The procedure is weird and complicated enough under normal circumstances so it could be a nightmare now.
Just let the SoLR send the reading to NR or their administrators so that NR can send you their final bill.  You may also wish to consider cancelling the DD because the DD collection systems often seem to keep running as normal after a supplier ceases trading.

In a few days the SoLR will be appointed & this will be the day from which the SoLR will start billing you on their own deemed tariff

Therefore on this specific day it makes sense to register a "final" read on the Neon Reef website so that you get charged correctly

If you do not do this then the change-over read will be estimated - if its too high this will work in your favour as you will get more units charged on the cheaper Neon Reef tariff - if its too low then the reverse will happen

You will unlikely have access to any/your account on the SoLR website on the day that they are announced as they take some time to get set up therefore the only place to apply any readings will be on NR account.

There's always the telephone, webchat or Royal Mail if you can't get through.

Eon provided a link to give the meter reading on the day of transfer from Symbio so they can do it
