The box for dates of unavailability was tiny and so could only fit actual holidays booked in. Is it possible to contact the court to arrange an alternative date? She is the defendant.

I should also add we were under the impression it would almost certainly been done remotely, which she could have done during her working day. But an entire day off would not be a possibility.

    Yep, contact the allocated court.

Thanks, I have done. She is fully against having to attend court and as I said, would rather just pay the fine than resort to that. What are the next best options then regarding mitigation or contact less hearing? Thanks!

Neither , if she wants to win !

There is no fine , it's an invoice

Currently the claimant is charging more than a judgment if she loses in court , so pointless paying it

Contact the court asap and give them dates when she is available

You should have come here for guidance about putting in those extra dates , small box or not

Looks to me like it's fight, or pay them their extortionate charge, which even if you lost at court, the charge would be reduced from its current level. So your wife is content to open her purse, hand it over with a tantamount 'Help yourself to what you want' rather than fight a pernicious blight on society?

What makes you think it will definitely be a physical court appearance?

Have you read @DisruptiveLad's thread about LJLA - that is the most optimistic possibility about bringing an end to this vile regime targeting genuine minor errors by drivers and the imposition of swingeing penalties!  You might try some leads from that.

    It is not a fine.

Appreciate the replies, thank you. I understand it would be better for her to attend but she is very much against this, and yes would rather pay to make it go away. Is the mediation approach better than the option of a hearing on papers?

Let us have your name and address.
I am sure there are a lot of people here who would be able to write a suitably threatening letter such that your wife will throw money their way.

Before anyone gets too concerned... I'm only kidding.  ;)

    No!

Please just tell the court she is a teacher and could attend if it is the expected remote hearing but not in person as she must be at school.

Ask for the format of hearing to be changed to a phone call (to allow her access to justice) or alternatively by the court's own volition, for the date to be re-set in August or last week in May, i.e. outside of term time, without having to pay a fee or make a formal application, given she believed it could be a remote phone call hearing.

State that a decision 'on the papers' is not an option, as that puts the Litigant in Person up against a solicitor who does template 'papers' for a living.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
