First time restoring oak furniture

Hi all,

I’ve just bought the below furniture and they could do with being sanded back and oiled? Any tips on how to do this properly? It’s my first time doing something like this! I want all the wood to be the same tone once completed so with the small side table will I actually be able to remove the dark stain and restain in a mid-light tone? (Please include specific products/tools if you know of any that are good!)

thanks all!

These tables are Sheesham wood also known as Indian rosewood.
The darker colour in this case seems to have been stained - that's the most usual way of colouring them.
Sanding out the stain is unknown but likely to be a positive outcome as it's a dense wood. You're hard work will be on the round legs as that will take a lot of hand work unless you have something that will sand in the crevices. Also hand work with the grain around the studs.
The top may sand down to lighter or darker depending on how much light it has been exposed too.

Do use a mask and eye protection when sanding as there are some saps and resins that may occour and are nasty little devils and this is an unknown piece of wood.
It should be oiled - this is going to take a long time to dry with the dense grain. I'd go for pure linseed or teak oil. You are going to need several coats
