Hi
We sold our house in September and we bought another house the day after which the offer was accepted on, our buyer is a cash buyer and everything has completed on that side of things, our purchase we are waiting for some enquiries and then everything is done on that, my solicitor gave us a estimated completion date end of November, found out that the people we have bought our house off haven’t even found anywhere to move to, when we went to view the house they told us that we wouldn’t be kept waiting as they were going into renting, but now they aren’t even sure if they are renting or buying, we told our solicitor that we wanted to be in for Christmas, the vendors have said they won’t be able to move until at least January, don’t even know how they can say that when they haven’t got anywhere to go, something doesn’t add up to me, not sure what they are playing at but we are worried that our buyers are gonna pull out if they are left waiting for too long so not sure what to do, is there anything we could do to get things moving along for us all it does anyone have any advice?

Or lie.we told our solicitor that we wanted to be in for Christmas, Nothing your solicitor can do if the seller is not ready to sell!the vendors have said they won’t be able to move until at least January, don’t even know how they can say that when they haven’t got anywhere to go, something doesn’t add up to me, not sure what they are playing atIt does not matter 'what they are playing at'. Clearly there is going to be a delay.but we are worried that our buyers are gonna pull out if they are left waiting for too longAh! So you have NOT sold your house either! And "everything has completed on that side of things, " is clearly not the case at all!so not sure what to do, is there anything we could do to get things moving along for us all it does anyone have any advice? You could* sell, and move in with family, friends, rented, and then hope your purchase actually goes ahead* wait, and hope your buyers wait* look for a deifferent property to purchase* try to put pressure on your sellers, eg by threatening to pull out, which may, or may not, work

You could go into rented yourselves to secure your buyer.4

Sorry, slightly off topic but should people just be writing that they have SSTC their house? I understand sold to be shorthand SSTC without the STC but a lot of people in here don't like that!

The problem is that if you take 'sold' to mean 'Sold subject to contract' then what words do you use to descibe the situation where you have actually sold (i.e. completed on) a property ? 'SSTC' or 'Accepted an offer on' is unambiguous, 'sold' isn't.

For example:
"I sold my house but am not ready to move."
If they mean sold STC then they just have to tell their buyer to be patient.
If they mean sold as in they've completed, they are in breach of the contract and there could be major financial and legal implications.0
