Selling - choice of solicitor

Hi all
For selling a properly, which still has a mortgage on it, does the solicitor need to be on the panel for the mortgage provider? I'm thinking that might only apply to buying, and not redeeming a mortgage. I'm considering 2 different solicitor firms, and each has given a different answer.
Please can someone in the know confirm?
Thanks in advance!

I suspect the answer will depend on who the lender is - often they'll only send out title deeds to panel solicitors - but it's likely the lender doesn't hold anything useful in the way of title deeds anyway. Otherwise anyone can deal with redemption of the mortgage.1

Thank you. That makes sense.

Lender will wish to be represented by a lender that they trust. You can use any solicitor that you like.0
