Cancelling Broadband switch that wasn't agreed by account holder of previous broadband service

Mother switched son's broadband, even though her son was account holder.

Apparently a cold call intimating Son had given permission to talk to her.

Can son cancel without incurring cancellation fees?

Would there be any come back for the mother?

Has the switch completed? If you're still in the "thinking of leaving?" stage then you can cancel the switch with no penalty at all.

If the switch has completed then I would complain to the new provider and see what they say, go to the ombudsman if they don't give you satisfactory response.

As above, you have a 14 day period until the switch takes place so you can cancel at anytime within this period.
  • Unfortunately switch has taken place, over a month ago.

By allowing your mother to speak for you she became your agent, the contract is legally binding.

It's probably too late to do much sort of reporting  the mum for impersonating the son which they may not wish to do.

    Very relevant questions.

Perhaps mum has switched on a family filter which is restricting son's choice of entertainment (do TalkTalk still offer KidsSafe?)

    I think you misunderstand
The OP did not  say they allowed their mother to speak.
My understanding is that a  salesman rang up claimed the son had given permission  and slammed the account
This says to me the binding of the contract is nothing of the sort

  • @Jumblebumble, that does not make sense.

How would a cold calling salesman have any clue who was the account holder unless they had previously spoken ?

I don't think the OP has posted the whole story.

The son could report hio mother for fraud amd get a police reference number. (this will be hard as police will resist).

With that report they should be able to change provider with no fees.

So it all depends on what the son wants to do, which if he is living in his mothers house will not be much presumably. (and if he is there then is is debatable it is his broadband as he hold less rights than a lodger should he be over 18).
