ryanair flight swap nightmare

I know this may shock you but Im having some trouble with Ryanair- I promised myself I wouldnt use them again but they were the only option for a planned holiday earlier this year. Cancelled due to covid at short notice, free move of flights (had to be before end of year, in same country).

Now cant go on the planned trip in November so planned to pay an flight changing fee. Went through process on website- costs £350 to change flights. Went through to payment screen and it say >£2k, but it seems to say in total taking into account previous payment. Spoke to Ryanair on the chat, was reassured, went ahead. Lo and behold now have been charged >2k to move flights. Contacted chat again told tough luck. Submitted complaint, no reply in 2 weeks.

Any advice? Im now £3k down on flights and have screenshots of the flight change prices screen clearly showing it was only £350.

many thanks

Are you sure the £350 wasn't just the flight change fee, and the total of £2000 wasn't including fare differences?  (both are payable when changing Ryanair flights)

That said, if you have proof of the Ryanair chat where they told you the £2000 included the previous payments, then there is a very small chance you might be able to do something.  Perhaps contacting your card provider in the first instance.  The only issue I see you might have is that if there was a payment screen showing £2000 and you entered your details and completed the transaction then it will be deemed you agreed to pay that.
  • Thanks for the reply.

I have  screenshots of the flight change booking screen which clearly says "price breakdown; bags price difference £0, seat price difference £0, change fee £350, total price £350". Then the next screen says total costs which appears to tot up everything including previous payments and looked about right (i didnt check the exact prev cost as it was 6 months previous).

I then went onto chat and queried this before committing. The rep was suitably vague but i was explicit in saying the cost of change was 350 but it was giving a large total at the end and they reassured me, again in a vague way- i hadnt committed at that stage so maybe they couldnt see the specifics of the change i was making?

I have screenshots of this conversation including me saying "i was scared I would have to pay X amount as its ridiculous, thanks for the reassurance".
  • When I went onto chat chasing it (after almost two weeks) I was told the wait for complaint reply is 28 working days. I offered to upload my screenshots but was told that would restart the process. It seems every single thing is designed to stop any satisfaction in this process.

Im inclined to claim on my CC and walk away, writing off the cost of the original flights as Ive seen flights on the same dates with other airlines for less than the excess Ive paid.

If I do that do I expose myself to any claim form Ryanair?

Have you checked the price of the new flights and compared it with the price you paid for the original flights ?
