Registered charge on house

Any help greatly received.
I was the sole beneficiary of my fathers house, he passed away in 2008 and the house has been mine since then.After his death we cleared his debts and repaid the few hundred pounds that was left on his mortgage, when we cleared the mortgage the provider told us that any charges would be removed. i have decided to sell the house and the solicitor has just sent me a letter saying that there is a charge on the house for £38,000 this has come as a massive shock. From what i can make out its a credit agency that deal in store credit etc and was applied to the house via the court in 2008,but the solicitor also sent me paperwork that is dated in 2020 with reference to brick work/cleaning with a cost of £38,000 so i am confused.
Can anyone tell me where i stand with getting this charge removed or do i have to pay it.As stated the house is now mine so does that make the debt mine to ?

The Executor/Administartor of dad's Estate (you? a solicitor?) should have checked at the time and paid off all debts/removed the charge(s).If you are the Beneficiary and not the Executor, you could claim the money from the Executor who failed in their duty.If you are /were also the Executor, you can claim the money from...... yourself!Either way, you will be unable tosell until the charges are removed which by the sound of it will involve those debts being paid off.Incidentally, how vulnerable was dad in the final years? "to brick work/cleaning with a cost of £38,000" sounds like he was scammed.
