Hi. I'm in the process of buying a house built in late 1890's. One of the (many!) survey issues that has come back is the loft party wall is incomplete. It's only about 12 bricks high and that is in poor condition. I understand this is quite normal in properties of this age. However, I would be keen to get a full height party wall installed. Does anyone know how much approximately that is likely to cost? I will not consider doing it myself due to zero DIY skills!

Edited to add - it's a small, 2 bedroom Victorian terrace.

    How thick is the wall?
Is it a single layer of bricks?
I assume it is built atop a brick internal wall divider?
    How big is the space?
It shouldn't be that hard but I know sweet fa about brickwork beyond helping my father build a patio. It also depends on if you want liveable space and how cooperative your neighbour is.

May you find your sister soon Helli.

  • Hi. It's a single layer of bricks. The length of the loft space at floor level is about 6.5m. I haven't bought the house yet so no idea about the neighbours but they have lived there 15 years, my sellers 25 years. Most people in the street have been there 10 years+. So that may be a good sign. Basically I'm just trying to estimate the cost of all the issues the survey has shown up.
