O/S Daily Thursday 23 September 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, mixed bag forecast for today.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was roast chicken, new potatoes, veg and gravy. Not sure what we're having tonight need to sort that out later.
Work still manic, going in early today as there's a couple of events going on today that should have had all the setting up done, but I wasn't able to check yesterday as I worked from a different site and was off in the afternoon. I'm hoping that whoever should have set it up has done, I will be complaining if they haven't as I'm there on my own and it will mean 2 areas will need setting up and the relevant paperwork needs printing out also. I shouldn't need to be doing this but it means that I will give myself an easier morning if I know in my own mind that I've sorted it and everything is as it should be. I'm not OCD but don't like being made to like I don't know what I'm doing by the management - they are just leaving us to get on with it with very little back up. Pleased to be off this afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, hope work gets better for you.
Hugs to you dumpling.
You sound to be getting out and about more now Poppy, great to hear of your socialising.
Drizzly rain this morning, I thought it was dry so went out in a hoodie which now weighs about 3 tons, wetter than I thought. It's also blowing a gale so not a great day weatherwise.
I got away from work earlier yesterday so had a good relaxing evening, chatted to my brother and then DS1, he's now lost his sense of taste and smell but apart from a cold isn't too bad. DD seemed a little better yesterday, let's hope she's turned a corner.
We have a long weekend here so today is my Friday, looking forward to no work for4 days but I'm sure I will have to send out some covid letters at some point.
Thinking of the missing and poorly, take care. XX

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC - I hope your morning will go all right, and you get the jobs done that you want to.It seems fine ish here still not quite light, but dry anyway.Yesterday was ok, it was a beautiful day and I got some washing dry.Today we are taking Dgs to Newcastle on the train, watch some trains in the station hopefully, dine out in Macd's, then get the bus home - he's 3 and a half and loves buses and trains, everything with wheels really, dustbin lorries, diggers, the lot.The only train he's been on so far in his little life is the North York Moors steam train. Like a lot of children he goes everywhere by car, so it's a treat for him to go on the bus and train.I might fit in a bit of tidying before we go, if I don't it'll wait for me, I'm sure.Hope everyone has a good day, thoughts to our poorly people.Take care folks.13

Morning folks.Yesterday the sun was blazing all day. What a surprise it was, bright blue sky with an intermittent blast of wind but boiling hot. I found out that at home there was rain so enjoyed the sunshine even more.We went down to Seaham to see Tommy. I was really moved by it, it's such a brilliant idea and extremely well made. Every detail is accurate. It was lovely to see so many people respecting the statue, almost everyone stroked some part. We then bought fish and chips and sat on the wonderful metal memorial benches to eat. A very good day was had.Today I'll be driving home, 180 miles to Glasgow where I'll pick up some groceries and then almost 100 miles to my place. I've had a really wonderful time and now it's time for my own bed.Camelot - enjoy the long weekend.Scarlet - what a lovely idea and a treat for your DGS.Happy Thursday to all.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope today is better than you are expecting it to be. What a miserable morning here. It looks damp but not exactly raining. And the gentle breeze that is on the forecast looks more like a gale force wind with the trees blowing every which way and leaving a trail of leaves in their wake. Autumn is definitely here.
I had a phone call from DD yesterday telling me middle DGD had tested positive on a LFT. She isn't having any symptoms whatsoever so it was a bit of a shock. But with 3 at senior school I'm surprised it's escaped them this long! The rest of them remain negative on the lateral flow but they all went for a PCR to confirm it. So now one is grounded and I expect the others to follow. Now awaiting results but I am keeping my distance from them all.
TAFF - I have already been down the herbal route with Sparkle. Someone on here suggested I ring Dorwest animal herbalists for their opinion. Two tablets were recommended but unfortunately they didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion anyway I am prepared to try anything.
DUMPLING I've just seen your last night's post. I'm so sorry, you certainly seem to be getting more than your fair share of worries just now. And shame on that couple for just turning up unannounced and dragging you down even further. ((HUGS))
I did plan on emptying the pots of dying plants today but unless the gale force wind drops that will be yet another postponed job! I'll make a head start on the Friday Tidy and I really should make inroads on the windows (another postponed job!) The window cleaner was due last week and still not got here. I am wondering if he too has succumbed to CV as he is never a week late! I still have quite a bit of Sunday's gammon joint left so will slice that up this morning and bag it up for the freezer. I might chop some bits up and add it to an omelette for my lunch. I'll chuck in some mushrooms and cheese too.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care all and stay safe x

Hi everyone,
I'm getting a bit fed up of waking about 5 every morning, it means I can't get through the day without a nap and then I'm in the cycle of waking early again. Anyway, I'm catching up with the new Bake Off. I'm wondering how a few of them got onto the programme, hopefully it's first week nerves.
We had a lovely day with Esben yesterday, he is obsessed with plans at the moment, Laura got him a toy one yesterday which he took to bed. At the same age Laura was obsessed with dolls (she didn't have one because I didn't want her to have the stereotypical girls' toys) and used to walk off with other children's until I gave in and got her one.
Today, I need to take the protective covers off the settees, wash them and put them away until we become an animal boarding house again, it will be nice recovering my living room again. Steve has a golf match which may include a dinner so I might not see much of him today.
Dumpling, I hope today is better for you. Enjoy your bed Gers. Ruby, I hope you hear what you'll be doing soon. NMLC, I'm sorry you're having a bad time at work, I hope it improves.

Morning everyone big hugs Dumpling you have a lot on your plate at the moment no wonder you are feeling down and boo to your friend just turning up like that you are really going to have to stop being so nice and start looking after yourself loving the Tommy picture Gets it is very moving when you see him mild here little dog been walked but we were nearly blown away my eye isn’t as painful today but still swollen hubby has got his dressing of he had another physio appointment yesterday and al is going well so things are looking up here I’m off to work now but the little chapel where I live is having a Macmillan coffee morning tomorrow I don’t start work until 12 so I will stick my nose in the door and show a bit of support have a good day everyone whatever you are doing11

Morning all; sunny here so far.
DS is coming here today so I'll need to organise a substantial lunch! I'm hoping he sorts out a few of his bits in the garage as storage space is shrinking there.
After lunch I'll be setting off for Rotherham, where I've booked in for the night, and then on to a music weekend in N Yorkshire on Friday. Hope I remember to take everything I need as I'm in a self catering cottage and I think there's only a village shop nearby. Some of the Mocha Squares are coming with me! My LFT yesterday made me gag, cough and sneeze plus made my eyes water but it was negative. Will do another one tomorrow as I have to show proof of one done within 48hrs of the event.
GERS: What a great photo. It looks as though the statue is made of wood. I'll have to look out for it if I'm ever up that way.
NMLC: I'm imagining you working for a Local Authority. Some years ago I did an admin role at my local Council and was very relieved when I was able to give in my notice and move elsewhere; not my sort of employer.
Have a good day everyone and will be back sometime next week.12 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here its a lovely day but it is getting chilly in the mornings and evenings.
Still heard nothing from work, the lady im dealing with only works Tues - Thurs so I will email her at lunch time if I have not heard anything, its making me very anxious not knowing !!
Taking tiny pup to have her hair cut today its actually not too long this time but I will take her anyway and book an appointment for just before Christmas.
Meatballs for dinner tonight with some spaghetti so a nice easy dinner. I have managed to get a sainsbugs delivery for tomorrow so no shopping for me this week which is a relief as I just dont seem to have the energy.
Dumpling you are really going through it atm, sending hugs to you xxx
Hope you all have good days xxx10 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Hugs Dumpling, I hope things improve.
Kitchen clean today, we were very late going to sleep last night, so a late start this morning. I am going to do a massive kitchen clean this morning, so everything that can be moved will be, I need to rescue my mop from the shed to clean the floor each side of the cooker. The waste bucket id outside saking on bleach. I managed to sort and repackage the meat, most of it is in the outside freezer, Morrison delivered early so I got most of that put away before DB got up after his siesta.
DB has had a headache for 2 days, I think he has either slept with his neck at a funny angle or ricked his neck, he has had problems with his neck before, he has spondylosis in his neck.
I am shattered after having to do the cleaning, at least I get 3 days off after today, before I start again next week, my cleaner is back from holiday 4th October, just in time for us to go away, fingers crossed. We are still ok, so it looks as if we might be lucky.
Supper tonight is frittata and salad.8 -
Morning all...grey and damp looking but no drizzle, woop! I cut almost all bits of wood that were suitable yesterday into suitable lengths for chopping today into kindling. Two builders buckets and a piled up crate full. I had wombled some floorboards last year, we were going to be making shelves with them but we hadn't got round to it so in the spirit of using right now and not sometime in the future, they got the chop. There are a couple more, alright, a few more, bits that I could use, but I'll chop up this lot and see how much it makes. If I fill the big black bin [ I use a small black bin for rubbish, the sellers left both of them here] that will hopefully be enough for the winter. Not anticipating doing anything else for the rest of the week because my elbows are already complaining from using the saw. I can't see using the hatchet is going to improve that ....I haven't got round to making moussaka yet but I have all ingredients bar milk. We've gone through this weeks so far at a sprint, there's half a pint left of three delivered Tuesday. We don't get any more until Saturday so I might have to buy some! oh the horror! As you can tell, the diet is off again, until my head is back in the game...With all the back and fore to Wales and the house clearing and tip visits it wasn't easy or feasible to stick at it. I've got very lax about it now so I'm hoping when theings are bit more settles I'll be back on it like a limpet. As long as I don't put all of it back on I'll be a happy bunny...TA, sorry to hear that..If it;s an allergy I'd be tempted to just try treating the symptoms for a bit instead of preventing them in the hopes they might get accustomed to it. Kind of like people being allergic to cats and dogs and then getting a cat or dog and not being allergic any more. WL, have a nice time..And you Scarlet.. And you Gers...OK, all of you peripatetics, have some fun
Nanny, hope your dad perks up...even if he is a pain...:) Right, I'm orf to put on my check shirt and do a Paul Bunyan...Have a great day today, wiggle your toes and feel alive....
