Am I able to switch energy supplier before British gas give me an account number
I'm a customer of pfp energy who've just gone into administration - OfGen have transferred customers to British gas. I've had emails from British Gas, but no account allocated yet. I'm registered with Merseyside collective switch and an offer has come through with them. According to energyhelpline, I cannot switch until Br Gas have allocated me an account number in a couple of weeks time which is not what Br Gas say, either in their FAQ's or when I called. My deadline fro the collective switch is 30th Sept and with the price cap increasing on 1st Oct, I'd prefer not to sit and wait. Anyone know what's right? Thanks

I would not switch until account has gone over to British Gas. I have no idea why an account number is being asked for but not familiar with Merseyside Collective Switch. No doubt someone else will come along and disagree with everything I have said. I would wait. I also have a supply with Pfp.0

If you read what has been said by the ombudsman /Ofgen ,Martin Lewis etc they all recommend that you wait till your alternate supplier gives you an account before switching to a new supplier.0

...and in 'normal' times such patience has few downsides. However, with prices on the up and the last of any half-decent tariffs seemingly disappearing around us there's a strong temptation to attempt a switch now even if there's no guarantee of success.Ganga said:If you read what has been said by the ombudsman /Ofgen ,Martin Lewis etc they all recommend that you wait till your alternate supplier gives you an account before switching to a new supplier.0 -
I received emails from British Gas a couple of hours ago, asking me to set up my password. I did that and have an account page but the supply doesn't start 'til 1st Oct. I just checked who my supplier is though, and it now states BG rather than PFP.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
