Electrics/boiler chicken and egg

Hello
Our Worcester boiler is flashing F7 for the second time this week.

We have booked BG to come out in a week's time.

We have researched what F7 means, and it's likely to be a voltage / electricity supply issue rather than the boiler, so the advice is to get an electrician out first to check the wiring etc.

we've just moved in and the electrics were rewired completely on 2006 - we didn't get them checked again when we moved in (i know). So the electrics are 15 years old (house is 170 years old).

anyone got any idea what to do next, should we get an electrician in in the meantime (if I can find one). Does it need to be a 'rewiring' check?

  • Worcester F7 code is usually an incorrect flame detection when off.

That might be related to earthing.

Undervoltage F7 codes appear to be for Ideal boilers. Check the exact make/model number.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

    Thank you. Its a condensing boiler with a code GC-Number 47 311 77 greenstarHE

Actually that's really helpful thank you. I just think "Worcester boiler" and F7 means something like "whole house needs rewiring".

The boiler is also about 15 years old I think .

Agree with Owain that this error for this boiler is flame detected when off.

Anything could be electrical, and you could rule that out by putting a plug on it and plugging it into an extension lead. However it does seem like the issue is most likely inside the boiler, and getting the BG technician to take a look sounds like a good first step.

sounds like a boiler fault, would be a waste of time getting an electrician in my opinion

    Hi LSH.
One non-gasie thing you may wish to try, as long as you are happy to do so - check the condensate trap for sediment which might be causing a blockage. If the condensate cannot escape easily, the build up of moisture in the combustion chamber could be giving the flame sensor a false reading.
Look up the maintenance manual for your model to confirm how to do the job.
NB: Boiler off at the mains supply. Thick towel covering the PCB panel to ensure water doesn't splash on it. Tray under everything to catch released water (which will be mildly acidic).

(Page 35 figure 51 in FaceHead's link - but ONLY the condensate cover part!)

  • Thank you - I see what you mean. Might not do that myself though 😜.

Does help with my understanding of such things
  • Quite right - only for those who know what they are doing.
Fingers crossed - I think it would be the best possible cause of the issue; 20 minutes work and no parts :-)

Let's hope so, although we are aware we are going to have to spend money at some point 😂
  • Hello - just an update. BG came today (been having cold showers all week 🤣) and it's all been mended and it did appear to be the flame detector error.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease with regards to thinking I needed the whole house rewiring - also had an electrician round and he's going to guu U.K. be us a quote fir some bits and pieces but generally things are fine.

    Thanks again
