I have a Barclaycard platinum card which I Have had for years. I had a balnce of around £2.5k which I paid off in full in March of this year. we are planning house renovations, Kitchen, bathroom, toilet, windows & doors plus new drive and i wanted a 0% on purcheses card for incidentals during the build. I looked on here and saw that Barclaycard platinum wer had a deal of 21mths 0% on purchases. i checked all of the smal print for the dreaded "New Customers Only" and there were none. It wouldnt let me apply online so I called Barclaycard and, yes you have guessed it..........this offer is for new customers only. It's so frustrating, I have banked with Barclays since i started woking there in 1980 as a 16 year old (Redundant in 2010). There seems to be no appetite to reward loyalty. Rant over!

Sites like this ensured that any residual loyalty was killed off long ago. Promotional budgets need to be pumped into acquisition, with profitability coming from the existing base. The only option is to chase the best deal.

Or you could do what I recently did, apply for the Sainsburys card, they are offering 26 months 0% interest with a fairly decent 1% BT fee. It makes Barclaycard's deals look poor in comparison, I was accepted with a reasonable limit of 11K too, job done.hertssjc1964 said:I have a Barclaycard platinum card which I Have had for years. There has never been such thing as loyalty. Economists will tell you there's a concept called price discrimination. Companies know that some customers are engaged and switch a lot and others that are not engaged and never (or seldom) switch. Because of this, they can make high margins off non-engaged customers and use these margins to cross-subsidise engaged customers.0
