  • I am on a fixed 2 yr luckily.

Can't get in the communal meter box for my reading, it's jammed. So left waiting til they fix it now to learn how my bill has changed with me turning it down a touch!

I know everyone is different but I have never in my life heated my bedroom  during the night. In the current house this could be down below 10 Deg C at the coldest times. Given that the storage heater appears fundamentally unsuitable for a bedroom it sounds like a direct heater, timed for say an hour before going to bed, half an hour before getting up, would do the trick.

Hello again, I wondered if you guys could help me as I revisit this please?

Circumstances have changed, we've got a child on the way so main focus is keeping the place warm enough in the winter- get rid of old storage heaters that run out of heat by the afternoon. This is what the heater guy has quoted me (I've filled in the room size)

Bedroom heater (Approx 3x3m area) - Creda TPR111 150E Instantaneous (two of these, one for each bedroom)

Living Room heater (Approx 4x3m area) - Sunhouse SSHE 1.5kw storage heater

He said that I'm better off with instant heat in the bedrooms, shove it on before bed and when you first get up and that'll be fine.

Having a new born, I want to ensure that she's going to be warm enough in the night so debating if I actually need storage heaters in the bedrooms as well to keep on low during the night?

    I'm on Octopus eco7 - day rate 29.16p and night rate 12.49p.

Do I go for storage heaters in bedrooms or do I switch tariff completely and go all 'instant'? Or do what he said, or any other way? Thanks

    A few questions:
What sort of meter do you have? Octopus have problems with SMETS1 smart meters, so rule this out

What turns your heating and hot water on and off? Time switches? The meter itself? If you have time switches, the timing might not match the timing of the meter

Have you tested the meter at all?

Check that it’s your meter as described earlier in the thread

Note both readings last thing at night and again first thing in the morning to check that only the night reading is increasing - our meter was faulty and both readings were increasing overnight
