Help with my bill

  • Newly moved in. I've taken all the readings so far.
Knowing that it's about £40 without heating on, winter is going to be lethal!
I've increased my DD so that I will build up some credit for the winter.
    Thanks all

What form does your heating take - storage rads, underfloor, panel heaters ?

We did have a post recently with someone who had issues with underfloor - turning it off at a control panel wasn't enough, they had to isolate it completely.

  • No underfloor. Just old storage rads - rubbish. I've looekd a little bit into the upgrade but prob not worth it as might only be there couple years.

Your night usage is about what I'd expect, around 3kWh per day (72 in 25 days, 90 in 29 days). Your day usage is up a bit in your second bill but not by a lot. This seems about right for an all-electric flat.
If you use 5000 kWh/yr, split 50/50 day/night, you're looking at an annual bill of £800 for electricity plus £85 for standing charge after VAT. £74pm on average.

From what I've read on this forum, old storage rads are still the lowest cost way to heat an all electric property. Definitely worth reading the threads on here before spending anything on replacing them.

    That's a great help thanks.

Yeah I had a thread on it an it blew my mind to be fair. Ended up thinking it can't be worth anyway if i intend to be out of there in a couple years.
  • Hello again everyone.

I decided to do a mixture of putting the heating on as/when needed for 30mins to an hour each time mixed with some overnight storage heating.
I tried to keep track on each but failed miserably.

With that said, I know my recent bill covers an extra 8 days so pro-rata to the previous duration of 28 days would be about £64?
I'm trying to work out if I'm best just leaving it on overnight storage heating now for the winter?
How much is it costing me per night to have it running? Have I used about 30 hours of overnight? I'm rubbish at working this stuff out so would appreciate the help.

You have increased your nighttime use marginally from 60%  to 65%.

Allowing for the different days of billing  you have increased your overall consumption by 45% which is hardly surprising as we  move into winter

  • Thanks Robin9 - I know this is probably a really basic question but what will my bill be if I have the overnight heat on everynight for 30 nights?
The below is what i'd call my 'no heat' bill...where I've not had anything other than household appliances running.

Your no heat bill is suggesting water heating by immersion heater.

I would run the storage heaters for their full 7 hour night time charge and have no other heating and see how you feel.
