Trustnet performance tables / FE Fundinfo Crown Ratings

I find it slightly confusing that the 'highest rated funds' don't include the 'top performing funds', and vice versa ie the top performing funds have lower ratings than the highest rated funds. Can anyone explain please?

The ratings are based on three factors over the last 3 years, not just gains.

I prefer to do my own research than rely on such ratings. It's not much fun buying into a 5 crown fund and watching them gradually get taken away.0
