Carers allowance after a death

I was under the impression that carers allowance was payable for 8 weeks after the death of the person cared for.
Is this correct?

Phoned since the 1st week after the death there was no payment.

I was told it will come in one lump payment of 8 weeks .

That sounded a bit strange to me,but I’ll wait and see.

My Mother passed away September last year, i phoned to stop my claim for Carers Allowance straight away
Didn't get payments for 8 weeks after , payments stopped immediately

They will close the claim, if you instructed them, but they should have told you about the benefit run on period of 8 weeks and you would have said, OK don't close it now, close it after the 8 week run on period. Then you would have received any payments you were entitled to.

Not too late to write to Carers Allowance about this.

You can usually continue to get Carer’s Allowance for up to eight weeks after the person you look after dies, as long as you continue to meet the age, study, earnings and residence criteria.
