Nothumbrian Water default removal

Hello,

Prior to getting my mortgage I lived with some friends for years in a joint tenancy. I checked my credit profile recently and noticed I have a £120 default dating April 2020, obviously my friend was aware of this and sorted it. The problem is it's also in my name and he's now listed as a financial associate on Experian. I'm not sure how this happened, he's always dealt with the water bill and I don't recall ever being named on correspondence. Interestingly our other housemate hasn't had a default and we were all registered on the electoral role (which is how I was added I assume?)

Is there anything I can do to contest or remove this? My friend is willing to help.on his side.

I don't use a lot of credit but my main worry here is how this will effect remortgaging. Luckily my mortgage went through March 2020 but I would like to remortgage when my rates run out.

Given you were resident at the property and equally liable for the water bill I don't see you have anything to contest.

Do you mean you were both listed on the account? You mention your friend sorted it so I’m confused if that’s the case or you had moved out, not changed details & then your friend paid the bill. If that’s the case there’s not really Much you can do.

If you don’t believe you were on the account then send them a complaint, might be worth sending a SAR to see what details that have for you if any.
