Financial Aid for an Adult Learner Permanently Resident in the UK and Studying Abroad

I would appreciate some advice and direction from Forum members who are knowledgeable in the area of educational grants, loans, and other types of financial aid for adult learners.

I was compelled to wait almost one and half years while my request to join my wife and children in the UK was being processed during which time I had quit my job. I subsequently took up a PhD programme at the local University to improve my employment prospects. Since joining my family in the UK, I am finding it difficult to support myself as the agencies which provide Adult Learners with financial aid have refused my applications for assistance on the grounds that the University I attend is not in the UK. I have completed the coursework part of the programme and am supposed to start the field work which is based in the UK. I have been permanently resident in the UK for the past 2 years and will only go back to my parent university to present my research findings.

Does anyone know of any agency or institution which can provide me with either a grant, loan, or some form of financial aid? The University I am enrolled in is one of the most reputable ones in West Africa. Thank you.

Swap courses to a uk university you can carry credit across if it meets standards of the uk university.

A U.K. charity, government or business is not going to fund you to study overseas.

Have you contacted the university where you are studying and asked the for advice/information? The most likely (indeed possibly only) source of funding is likely to be from a charity or other body if you meet their eligibility criteria and the university might be best placed to help you identify any potential sources.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

There is very limited support for PhD courses/students of any description available even those at UK universities and many students fund themselves through it by studying part time and working part time for instance.  How have you been supporting yourself the past two years as you probably need to continue with that?
